What is Biotrē™ 2.0?
Our 12oz. bags are made of a material called Biotrē 2.0.
Biotrē™ 2.0 is 60% compostable by weight. The bag's natural kraft paper printed outer layer consists of cellulose derived from wood pulp, making it fully compostable. The interior layer is made from nearly all plant-based, renewable Polyethylene ("PE") derived from sugar cane. This is a durable, non-biodegradable layer. This robust, plant-based film makes up the remaining 40%, and though it will not break down quickly, it uses a sustainable source instead of fossil fuels like typical plastics.
How to Compost Biotrē™ 2.0
- Remove the one-way degassing valve & zipper.
- Place the bag into your home compost.
- 10-12 weeks later, remove any remaining bag material and throw it away in your trash.
- Do not dispose of it in curbside (industrial) compost.
